Light that tells a story. Danske Gas, partner of the August edition of LOLEK Kino Letnie ‘Oscarowe Środy’ (Oscar Wednesdays)
Four Wednesdays in August, four films honoured by the Academy, and a clearing on Pole Mokotowskie transformed into a cinema under the open sky – Danske Gas partnered the August edition of LOLEK Kino Letnie ‘Oscarowe Środy’.
Warsaw, Pole Mokotowskie
Cinema came into the world bearing the surname of light – Lumière. And though more than a hundred and thirty years have passed since that first screening, its ritual has remained unchanged: the day goes out, the screen lights up. In August that ritual played out on Pole Mokotowskie – and we had the honour of accompanying it.
There is something in open-air cinema that no auditorium can reproduce: the drama of dusk. Audiences at Cannes know it from the night screenings of Cinéma de la Plage; those of Wrocław’s Nowe Horyzonty, from the Market Square, where a thousand people can fall silent in the same second. The screen waits patiently for the sky to ripen into indigo, and only then does it begin to tell its story. In the clearing by ulica Rokitnicka, that moment smelt of cut grass and a warm August evening.
The August edition of LOLEK Kino Letnie ‘Oscarowe Środy’ brought four evenings and four films about which the Academy had already said all there was to say, and which still had something to say to their audience. On 5, 12, 19 and 26 August, always just after dark, the clearing on Pole Mokotowskie beside LOLEK grill & bar was transformed into a cinema under the open sky – with grass in place of the red carpet and the stars cast in a double role.
For years LOLEK grill & bar has been more than a dot on the map of Warsaw – it is the city’s summer agora, where the conversation after the film outlasts the closing credits, and a deckchair and a blanket serve perfectly well in place of a festival dinner jacket. It is precisely this open-air ease that allows high culture to feel so naturally at home here: close to people, close to the grass, close to emotion.
At Danske Gas, energy is our daily work. We believe, however, that its noblest form is the one that becomes light – including the light that falls upon a screen. We understand the patronage of culture as its finest tradition teaches: discreetly, and in the conviction that a business becomes fully responsible only when it helps shape the life of the community in which it operates.
The audience took to heart the simplest piece of festival advice: they came before dark, found a place on the grass and let August tell them four good stories.
LOLEK Kino Letnie ‘Oscarowe Środy’: Wednesdays 5, 12, 19 and 26 August 2026, the clearing beside LOLEK grill & bar, ul. Rokitnicka 2 (Pole Mokotowskie), screenings just after dark. Event partner: Danske Gas.
Our thanks to the LOLEK Kino Letnie ‘Oscarowe Środy’ team for their trust and for inviting us to celebrate cinema together. See you under the stars – next year.
